Security Clearance Requirement for Promotion
IAW AR 600-8-19, Para 1-16, dated 2 Oct 2000, the following security clearance requirements are a prerequisite for promotion.
Promotion to MSG and SGM requires a favorable National Agency Check, Local Agency Check, and Credit Check (NACLC) or a Security Clearance of Secret or higher.
For promotion to SPC through SFC requires the clearance required by the promotion MOS or an interim clearance at the same level.
There are no exceptions to this requirement for promotion.
We have had several cases now, where a SFC was up for promotion, and did not have a security clearance. It is not a requirement to be selected for promotion, but is a requirement for promotion.
Please inform ALL your senior NCO's, if they do not have a security clearance, to start the process now. The responsibility has to be on the individual to ensure that he /she meets promotion requirements. It is not part of the record check, because it is not required to be selected for promotion.
